Brest is considered one of the oldest cities in the territory of today's Belarus. For the first time, Berestye is mentioned on pages of annals according to different sources in 1017 or 1019. The city, which for its biography was part of several principalities and states, survived two world wars. Brest at all times was at the crossroads, and it was not only trade routes but, above all, roads of war. All European and Russian historical events were reflected in the history of Brest and influenced its development. Here Belarusian, Polish and Russian cultures merged together.
